Cold! It could be colder but you would not know the difference. When it is cold it is cold. I don’t mind the cold so much. When it is cold you can bundle up, when it is hot there is only so much you can take off. When I was a kid living out in Good Hope (an area between Perris and Elsinore on Hwy 74) it would get hotter than you know what in the summer. We would just get in the shower with our clothes on and soak them up to stay cool. The temperatures here in Big Bear don’t get that hot. Average in the summer is 77 during the day, mid to upper 40′s at night. Winter time is upper 40′s to lower 50′s during the day, 20′s at night. You get used to it. See you on the Mountain!

It is snowing in Big Bear.  So it begins, another season of slipping and sliding, shoveling and plowing. Flatlanders bar-b-queing in the turnouts. Do you have your chains? Now is not the time to learn how to use them. It would have been easier in your garage. Have fun. I am going to go build a snow berm. See you on the Mountain!

Another sold out weekend. We have been sold out every weekend for the past 6 weeks. Our prices must be competitve or maybe its our customer service. Our website is not the easiest to find, it dosn’t get crawled or spidered or whatever they web genies call it. That will all soon change. The company is in the process of been sold to another corporation that has it’s own website. So when you go to the Mountain Time site you will be directed to another site. Just a click of the mouse and there you are. I will be doing other things, not sure what yet but I will be doing them. Mountain Time Resort Rentals started on October 16, 2004 and had a good run. Now with advertising costs, and all the other stuff that goes with running a vacation rental company, I am kind of glad to be stepping back and trying other things for awhile. Don’t you worry though, the same services and hospitality will be right here.

Thanx for coming and we will see you on the Mountain!

The snow came, so did the people. Over 100 inches of the white stuff to move and navigate through. I am very glad that I live in the mountains because the summers are so great and the winters are so profitable. There is always something to do here. I cannot understand why anyone is unemployed. There is wood to split, snow to move, houses to clean, put chains on flatlanders vehicles, sell pinecones to tourists, the list goes on. I don’t want everyone to find out how great it is up here, well one weekend at a time is ok but unless you are going to contribute, go home when you are through. We will see you next time. Meanwhile I will get the rooms ready for the next bunch to come and go, complaining about the cold and traffic.

See you on the Mountain!

It happens every year, the flatlanders come up, get lost, leave their trash, and go home. I understand that this is not your familiar ground, but the rules of the road are the same everywhere here in CA. Right turns from the left lane, left blinker on then turn right, or no signal at all, the list goes on. You can sign up for my driving class anytime. There is also a new law (on the books since last July) that says you cannot drive and use a cellphone. Who cares? If you can’t drive without using a phone then you should seek help. Are we that busy? More driving news… I went to L.A. last week to see my Lakers beat Indiana. Last time I checked the speed limit was 65mph. I was cruising 70 in the commuter lane and you would think I was rowing a boat. People were crossing the double yellow to go around me and giving me the stink-eye as they broke the law. You are incredible. Follow the rules or don’t play!

Come on up if you can follow the rules, otherwise, stay home and watch reruns on NickatNite

Hello from Big Bear!

Summer is here, where are the tourists? It seems kinda slow up here, lots of room on the lake, the fish are very active. My 4 year old son, Andrew caught his first fish last Monday, June 30, 2008 at about 6:50PM. Reeled it in and all. About 2 Lbs and 14″. You should have been there. I have yet to be skunked this year when I have gone on the lake just to fish. After the sun goes down there is a lull, but soon the fish come closer to the top and you are busy again, one pole to the other. Great fun. If you would like to try just give us a call at 909-866-4745 and we will get your fishing trip started.

So far this summer here in Big Bear there has been a plane crash (the pilot says he would rather have it called an “emergency landing”), a robbery at the store on the east end on the Blvd, a murder (all suspects have been arrested), a fire at a local campground due to a careless camper or two,  2 car shows, a motorcycle rally, and a couple of concerts.  A wide range of stuff on a local basis. The signal light at Maple is going finally and Brad is coming back to town to join Skeleton Key.

Make your plans to get up here and join in the activities or become the latest news headline by catching that 14Lb trout that I just missed for the hundreth time.

See you on the mountain!

Hello from Big Bear!

Another Memorial Day weekend is upon us and the folks around the valley are gearing up for the big yard sales. This weekend is traditionally the biggest yard sale weekend of the year. The best stuff is found on Friday, the best deals (for whatever is left) are on Sunday. If you live here in Big Bear Lake and are planning to have a yard sale, don’t forget to register with the city. There is no fee, but they want to make sure you are not running a business out of your yard. Incredibly enough, some people have yard sales every weekend. The city does not like that. The don’t get any tax money from a yard sale business. So if you are looking for “stuff” come on up and browse the neighborhoods for your lost treasure. Cash only please.

See you on the mountain!

Hello from Big Bear!

I guess it is too early to plant watermelon here in the Big Bear Valley. It got a little cold last night, 25 degrees, and my watermelon croaked. I feel bad, like I let the little guy down and did not take care of him. Starting over. I have alot of experience at starting over. Jobs, marriages, residences, pancakes,… you get the idea. So I will pick up another started plant today and give it another shot.

I have other agenda also with my trip down the hill. I am to pick up 20 bags of topsoil, 10 bags of manure, drop off my busted generator, and do a serve. By the time I am done riding around I will have covered about 200 miles at 15 miles per gallon in my Ford. That is around $54.00 of gas. The serve will pay $51.80. Almost worth it.

Hey don’t let the cost of gas deny you from getting up here and enjoying this great place. The fish are biting, the skies are as blue as you could imagine, and we’ll be glad to see you,  or not see you as you make your escape from the flatlands.

Have a safe trip and we’ll see you on the Mountain!

Hello from Big Bear!

The slopes closed last Sunday and now the town is really empty. Nobody seems to know how nice it is up here this time of year. The fishing is great  and the shores are empty, there are no speed boats or seadoos to chase the fish around. May 17 is the first fishing derby of the season. The entry fee is $50 and the prizes are many. The weather is actually nicer than predicted, temps have been in the 60′s during the day and upper 30′s at night. Nice.

Come on up and get to know you again.

See you on the mountain!

Hello from Big Bear!

Spring is upon us and my guests have left the mountain leaving lots of room and lots of quiet. The lake keeps calling to me for some fishing time. I am ready. We had a busy season which by the way is not over, there is plenty of snow left on the slopes. The weather folks are predicting snow for this weekend which would give us a white St. Patrick’s Day. Speaking of St. Patty’s, Skeleton Key will be at the Pub in the Village playing classic country, rock and folk music for your entertainment. Come on up and join the fun!

See you on the Mountain!
