Beginners Welcome! (9/28/06)
The 2nd Annual Big Bear Lake Troutfest is coming up soon, giving fishers a variety of ways to win awards, cash and prizes. This year, there are 30 tagged fish with different values – the greatest one being a 2006 Ford F-150. There are also three tagged fish worth $10,000 each and 26 other tagged fish worth prizes like a trip to Mexico, local accommodations, and fishing apparel and equipment. Prizes are awarded based on a two-day cumulative weight, to the top five anglers in four different categories. Besides the competition, each contestant will find a raffle ticket in their entry packet, giving them a chance at a Mercury powered Crestliner boat and trailer package.
The Department of Fish & Game stocks Big Bear Lake with about 154,000 lbs. of rainbow trout every year between April and October. Next week, the Big Bear Municipal Water District will stock the lake with an additional 3,000 pounds of trout, including trophy-size fish. The two-day Troutfest is set for the weekend of October 7 and is open to all ages and skill levels. You can pick up entry forms at the MWD at 40524 Lakeview Drive.
